How to Keep Your Dog Cool All Summer Long ☀️
Summer is all about sunshine, long walks, and outdoor fun —but as soon as the temperatures heat up, it's time to keep your pup cool. Unlike us, dogs don't sweat, so they can use a little assistance staying cool and comfortable. Whether you're going out to the park or just hanging around the backyard, these are a few simple tips to cool your dog down all summer.
1. Hydration Is Everything
Always provide your dog with plenty of access to cool, fresh water. Pack a portable water bowl or collapsible water bottle when walking your dog or going on an adventure. You can even put a few ice cubes in their water bowl for that extra cool bonus!
Here's one of our favorites:
2. Take Morning or Evening Walks
Noon sun is too intense for your dog. Try to walk early morning or late evening when it is cooler on the sidewalk and the sun is not blazing. And yes—if your hand is too hot, their paws are too.
3. Try Cooling Gear
From mesh harnesses to cooling bandanas and mats, there are simply so many products out there to cool your dog in style.
We love this super cute cooling mat!
4. Make Frozen Treats
DIY frozen dog treats are a delicious (and cold!) method of cooling down your dog. Place plain yogurt, peanut butter, or low-sodium broth into silicone ice trays and freeze to make them a cool treat.
5. Construct Shady Chill Spaces
If your dog is outside, make sure it's well shaded or set up a cooling pad in your back yard. No backyard? No worries—a fan or cool tile floor indoors will suffice.
Keeping your dog cool is not just for comfort—it's a matter of health. With a few easy changes, your pup can have all the fun of summer without overheating!
